How to measure for your linked roller blinds

  • Mike’s Tip! When measuring inside mount roller blinds, ensure that you have at least 60 mm clearance inside your window recess so you have enough space for your blinds to sit neatly inside.
  • How to Measure - Inside Mount

    Measure your width
    • Firstly, measure your overall width, this will be the hard width across the top inside the window recess as this is where your brackets will be fitted.
    • Note your overall measurement to the exact mm
    • Next using a grey lead pencil, mark the spot inside your recess directly over the centre of a natural break in the window, the centre of the doors or the centre of the overlap between two doors.
    • Now starting from left to right, measure what each individual blind width will be.
    • Note your measurement to the exact mm for each individual blind, note these as blind as blind 1, blind 2 etc.
    • The measurement for each individual blind must add up to the total overall width as noted in step 1
    Measure your drop
    • Measure the hard drop from the inside top of your window to the inside bottom of your window.
    • Note your measurement to the exact mm.
    • Don’t worry if you measure the drop a little bit longer, you will be supplied with ball stops for your chain so you can choose exactly where you want the bottom of the blind to sit. You can also easily control the bottom limit with motorised blinds.
  • Decide how you want to design your blind

For more details on all our design choices, refer to our product specifications page

    • Linked Layout Styles: Our linked layout options give you great flexibility in combining 2, 3 or 4 blinds side by side. Linked blinds are placed alongside each other across your windows or doors up to 12,000mm and only have a 19mm gap between each individual blind. You can choose for separate controls for each blind or operate up to 2 blinds with the same control. [find out more about our linked layout styles)
    • Roll Direction: iSeekBlinds recommends inside mount roller blinds are front rolled, this means that the fabric rolls off the front of the roll tube like a waterfall to avoid any knobs, winders or the inner window frame that may obstruct the blind. This will also create a softer, more balanced look.
    • Control type: Decide if you want a chain drive to control your blind or if you want to upgrade to a motorised control. If you choose a chain we will recommend a length for your chain drop, but you can choose a longer/shorter chain if you need it. Depending on the linked layout you choose this will determine which side your control will be on. For motors make sure you choose the side that is the easiest to access when you need to charge it.
    • Colour Choices: You will have the choice of a white, black or anodised bottom rail, make sure you note this as you take your measurements. Your choices of chains are either black or white as standard or you can upgrade to a metal chain or a stainless steel chain, which is highly recommended for wet areas or if you live near the coast.
    • Spring Assist: All blinds with a chain drive that have an individual or overall linked width greater than 1800mm wide should be ordered with a spring assist. This will ensure your blinds glide smoothly up and down with minimal effort and will limit wear & tear on the components.
  • How to Measure - Outside Mount

    Measure your width
    • Firstly, measure the width on the outside edges of your architrave from one side to the other.
    • Measure from the top of the architrave as this is where your brackets will be fitted.
    • For windows without an architrave measure from where you want the brackets to be installed and the measurement will be from the outside of one bracket to the outside of the other bracket.
    • Note your overall measurement to the exact mm
    • Next using a grey lead pencil, mark the spot on your architrave directly over the centre of a natural break in the window, the centre of the doors or the centre of the overlap between two doors.
    • Measure the hard drop from the top outside edge of the architrave to the bottom outside edge of the architrave. This measurement may be increased if you want the blind to drop past the bottom of your window frame or to the floor.
    • Note your measurement to the exact mm.
    • Don’t worry if you measure the drop a little bit longer, you will be supplied with ball stops for your chain so you can choose exactly where you want the bottom of the blind to sit. You can also easily control the bottom limit with motorised blinds.

    • Roll Direction: SeekBlinds recommends outside mount roller blinds are back rolled, this means that the fabric rolls off the back of the roll tube this ensures the fabric stays close to the architrave for maximum privacy and light control.
    • Control type: Decide if you want a chain drive to control your blind or if you want to upgrade to a motorised control. If you choose a chain we will recommend a length for your chain drop, but you can choose a longer/shorter chain if you need it. • Add on a Pelmet: Consider finishing off your linked roller blind with one of our designer pelmets. Not only will it look great, it will hide the tube and stop dust from collecting on top of the blind. Note: Pelmets are only compatible with outside mounted, back rolled linked roller blinds.
  • How to Measure - Pelmets

To create a contemporary look and add the finishing touch to your linked roller blinds add one of our designer range of pelmets. Pelmets will neatly cover the linked joining brackets as well as the top and front of the roll tube protecting your roller blinds from dust as well as hiding the roll tube.

Mike’s Tip! Pelmets are only available on outside mounted blinds and can only be back rolled. They are available on our Single and Linked Roller Blinds only.

When ordering a pelmet for a linked roller blind this will cover the entire layout of all of your linked blinds. Our pelmets are available in lengths up to 4,800mm. For linked roller blinds with a greater overall width than 4,800mm these will need to be installed side by side (butt joined). Additional freight surcharges may apply for sending lengths greater than 4mtrs.

Dimensions: Our Pelmet 95 range protrudes 85mm out from the architrave / wall and has a height of 95mm

    Option 1 - Extended Mount

Best for achieving greater light control and privacy and blends the fabric into the wall without the disruption of the architrave.

    • Measure from the outside edge of the architrave to the outside edge of the architrave. Add an extra 30mm past the outside edge of the architrave on both sides (if space permits) - adding a total of 60mm to your overall width. This will then extend your fabric past the architrave for full coverage on both sides and reduce light gaps
    • This will become the overall width measurement you enter when placing your order and represents the finished size of the pelmet, not the fabri
    • Note your measurement to the exact mm.
    Option 2 – Flush Mount

The pelmet sits flush with the outside edge of the architrave

    • Measure from the outside edge of the architrave to the outside edge of the architrave for a flush finish.
    • This will become the overall width measurement you enter when placing your order and represents the finished size of the pelmet, not the fabric.
    • Note your measurement to the exact mm.
  • Sizes – Minimum & Maximums

We manufacture custom linked roller blinds to a vast range of sizes. To ensure you always get a great result, we have minimum and maximum dimensions for our linked roller blinds, depending on your layout style and the fabric range.

    * Please note: A small selection of our fabrics have a maximum width less than 3,000mm. Please refer to our Fabric Specifications for Roller Blinds for all details.

Mike’s Tip! When working out which layout style you will choose, firstly work out what your overall width is and then how many individual blinds you want, this will determine which layout style is best for you. No individual blind width can be less than 250mm with a chain drive or 570mm motorised and no larger than 3,000mm. The minimum and maximum drop is the same regardless of your layout style or if you choose chains or motors.

Mike’s Measuring Tips

  • Use a steel tape measurer for accuracy. Make sure it’s straight and tight when you take your measurements.
  • From the front door, turn left. This becomes window 1 and then work clockwise around your house. Repeat upstairs if necessary. Also add your room name to each blind as you order them.
  • Measure at the top of the window frame where the blind is to be installed. This is where your brackets will be placed.
  • Always measure in millimetres (mm) – remember it’s OK to be 1mm short, but you can't be 1mm too long
  • Measure every window, even those that appear to be the same width and height.
  • The measurement you provide is the outside edges of the brackets – not the fabric width
  • Do not take any deductions (iSeek Blinds will do this for you)
